ASHDOWN, Ark. (AP) - City officials in Ashdown and law enforcement in Little River County say the derailment of a Kiamichi Railroad train was not reported by the Oklahoma-based company.
Officials say the derailment included about four cars that were apparently carrying grain and occurred near a neighborhood and two schools on in Ashdown. It was discovered Friday morning.
Mayor Carroll McLarty told the Texarkana Gazette there is no indication anyone was injured. He says the city has been trying to contact Kiamichi officials.
Officials with Hugo, Okla.-based Kiamichi Railroad did not return phone calls to The Associated Press Saturday.
McLarty says city park Superintendent David Bearden called him about 7:30 a.m. Friday to say that 10 tractor-trailers were in a city park after hauling equipment to repair the tracks and derailed cars.
