SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) - A man and a teenager are under arrest for allegedly robbing a local gas station at gunpoint.
Nov. 3, Searcy police say two suspects wearing hoodies and bandanas over their faces robbed the Valero gas station at 316 S. Benton at gunpoint. They took an undisclosed amount of cash in a black drawstring bag and ran out of the store.
When officers searched the area, an officer heard something while driving over a nearby bridge. The officer got out of his vehicle, and saw a man under the bridge. When the officer identified himself, the man fled. The officer saw the man with a handgun and chased after him. After running, police say the suspect tried to get inside a nearby house. The suspect was then taken into custody and identified as Carlos Anton Mellon, 28 of Searcy.
Police say the second suspect was found trying to enter the Kroger store on Race Street. He was identified as a 14-year-old juvenile. Officers also found the black bag in a trash can at the store.
Both suspects were arrested at 11:05 p.m. Mellon was charged with aggravated robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and theft by receiving. His bond was set at $100,000 with a court date set for Jan. 7, 2014.
The juvenile was transported to the White River Juvenile Facility in Batesville where he is also charged with Aggravated Robbery.
