LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Walk into any shop, and you'll have your choice of ways to pay by cash, credit, debit, check or gift card. Now, you can add one more method to the list-by Smartphone.
Well, it's not happening everywhere yet, but the number of places around central Arkansas where you can use your phone at the cash register is growing.
Starbucks has been the prominent national retailer using this technology, allowing customers to download an app to their phone where one can place his or her order before even setting foot in the store. Starbucks keeps tabs on what each customer buys and can then send loyalty points or even perks like free song downloads to the customer.
Some other companies have apps, like Starbucks. Walmart, along with other big companies like Dillards, is developing something called MCX, which they hope will be the standard way for making sales in this way.
