LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Here some fun ideas from Little Rock Family Magazine.

Father's Day events-June 17

Sunday is Father's Day! Make the day memorable by taking dad out on the town.

Grab a pole and head to Wildwood Park for the Arts on the one day a year visitors are invited to fish in Swan Lake! The fish will be hungry so Dad and the kids should feel plenty of nibbles at the end of their lines. On the banks of the lake, families will also enjoy music, food and prizes all afternoon. $5 admission, children 5 and under free. noon-5 p.m.

Take Dad out to the ballgame! The Arkansas Travelers play the Tulsa Drillers at a special Father's Day game. Before the first pitch in Dickey-Stephens Park, dads and their kiddos are invited onto the field for a round of catch. Then, after the game, kids are invited back onto the diamond to run the bases. $6-$12, children $4; families $10 with church bulletin. 6 p.m.

Kids can treat dad to a day at the Museum of Discovery at no cost. Dads get in free; adults $10, children ages 1-12 $8, children under 1 free. While at the museum, families can visit special exhibits "Extreme Deep: Mission to the Abyss" and "Astronomy, It's a Blast."

 

Go! Mile at Burns Park Soccer Complex, Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 a.m.

Hit the pavement in the second annual Go! Mile presented by Go! Running, the Heights shop for running and walking gadgets and gear.

The fun fitness event, with registration at 6:30 a.m. and the first race at 7:30 a.m. Saturday (June 16), rallies runners of all ages, both experienced competitors and beginners, to take on the attainable, one-mile run. The day at Burns Park Soccer Complex includes heats for women and men of different age groups, including the half-mile Kids' Mini Mile for kids ages 9 and under; each youngster who crosses the finish line receives a prize.

New this year, men, women and children ages 10 and up can compete together in The First Mile, a special race created for newbies and presented by the Governor's Council on Fitness.

The event supports the Winston Penn Wardlaw Memorial Fund, a scholarship program for Catholic High students.

Race registration begins at 6:30 a.m.; first race starts at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $20 ($10 for children under 18, $5 for children under 10). For each Go! Mile registration, receive one free Mini-Mile registration.


Summer Fun Extravaganza at Museum of Discovery, Thursday, June 14-Saturday, June 16

Soak up the science of summer at the Museum of Discovery's Summer Fun Extravaganza Thursday-Saturday (June 14-16). The museum will be decked out in festive beach and swimming décor, including a display of shells and coral at the entrance. Carts around the galleries will demonstrate how science affects our summer activities, from the explanation behind hearing ocean waves in a seashell to how sunscreen protects against ultraviolet rays. Plus, attendees will find a few fun surprises involving bubbles and learn about air pressure with help from a marshmallow launcher and water shooter.
