LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Prepare for delays near the Big Rock Interchange (I-430
and 630) starting Tuesday, Nov. 13. Crews will be completing a variety of
construction just in time for the holiday season.
"I haven't seen a lot of accidents, but have seen people do U-turns in the
streets," said Phoenicia Harris.
Harris is used to construction around the Interstate 430/630 Interchange. As a
sales assistant at Furniture Factory Outlet near the site, she said it's not
too bad for business.
"It's done a wonderful deal to my job because with the construction
sometimes we have detours; with the detours you can't help but pass our
stores," explained Harris.
She's bracing for more congestion. Between Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m., travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Crews will be
working on Shackleford Rd. between Hermitage Rd. and West Markham St. They will
also be working on Financial Centre Pkwy. between Shackleford Rd. and Embassy
Suites Dr.
"There will be selected lane closures. The whole area will not be closed
down. There will be one lane of traffic in each direction at all times," said
Randy Ort, spokesman for the Arkansas Highway Department.
Ort asked motorists to keep up the good work of avoiding construction areas.
"We want people to plan their trips ahead of time."
Ort concluded with saying that crews will finish paving new sections of roadway
that will tie into the future I-630 overpass of Shackleford Rd. On top of lane
closures on Financial Centre Pkwy and Shackleford Rd., expect some construction
on Interstate 430 southbound. That will start this weekend and go into next
week.
The $124 million interchange modification project will continue through 2014. For more information, go to www.ArkansasHighways.com.
