SEARCY, Ark. (KTHV) - Large high-voltage direct current transmission lines in Arkansas could soon be transporting energy to our neighbors.

Clean Line Energy is a company that's making their rounds Arkansas looking for the best areas to put these power-lines. The company develops long-haul, high volatafe direct current ransmission lines that carries energy developed from wind to parts of the southeast that are without the clean energy source.
They're hosting a series of public open house meeting in different Arkansas communities to introduce themselves and explain impacts of communities. 

 
Also during the meetings, they give the public an opportunity to provide feedback that could help them in potentially placing the powerlines.

This project will transport 3,500 megawatts of clean power from western Oklahoma, northern Texas, and southwestern Kansas to customers in Tennessee, Arkansas and other areas in the Mid-South and Southeast. They will be delivered by an overhead 750-mile high voltage direct current transmission lines. 

Clean Line Energy said this project will cost approximately $2 billion with around $500 million invested in Arkansas.

These meetings are sponsored solely by Clean Line Energy for purposes of its route study process. It is anticipated that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will hold public scoping meetings in early 2013 to receive public comments as part of DOE's independent National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review of the Plains & Eastern Clean Line proposal.
