BAY COUNTY, Fla. (KFSM) - The man charged in the hit and run accident that killed the Lowell police chief has plead guilty.
KFSM reports Jimmy John Christo plead guilty to leaving the scene of a crash with death and driving under the influence manslaughter. He got 12 years in prison and five years probation.
The accident happened in May 2012 in Panama, Florida. Authorities say Lowell Police Chief Joe Landers was riding with a group of bikers when Christo pulled in front of Landers without signaling. Landers struck the vehicle and flew over his handlebars and onto the ground.
Christo initially left the scene but was later arrested on drug and traffic violations.
