SEARCY COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- An arrest had been made in a Searcy County murder investigation.
According to Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce with the Searcy County Sheriff's Department, 18-year-old Chris Smith is accused of killing Eddie Covington. Smith was a neighbor of the victim and is being held in the Searcy County Detention Center on the charge of first-degree murder and is expected to be charged formally Monday.
Pierce said Stoney Cox, 47, is Chris Smith's biological father. He was arrested on numerous weapons and property crime charges stemming from this investigation, but has not been implicated in the murder.
Covington's body was recovered in a remote, heavily wooded area of Searcy County in the area of Witt Springs Jan. 11 by the Searcy County Sheriff's Department and Arkansas State Police. He had been missing since Jan. 8, added Peirce.
