CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - The man accused in the death of a Conway Police Officer has posted bond and is released from jail. Barry Strickland's attorney, Frank Shaw, said Strickland posted bond Friday night.
Strickland is accused of hitting Officer William McGary with his vehicle as the officer was directing traffic along Dave Ward Drive the evening of Jan. 31.
Strickland is charged with first degree battery, DWI-Drugs, and disobeying a police officer. His charge could be elevated to manslaughter.
He had been held on a $150,000 bond at the Faulkner County Detention Center. Shaw said prosecuting attorneys are requesting a hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday to increase his bond to $250,000. Strickland was scheduled to be in court Monday, but that was postponed. Prosecutors also want Strickland to be required to wear an electric monitoring device and remain under house arrest.
