NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - There's renewed focus on Dr. Drew Pinsky and his "Celebrity Rehab" series in the aftermath of the death of country singer Mindy McCready.

The singer is the fifth cast member of the series to die since appearing on the show -- and the third from Season 3. The previous deaths had already stirred up discussion about the show's helpfulness.

Singer Richard Marx on Twitter compared Pinsky to the suicide doctor, Jack Kevorkian -- though he later backed away and said he'd gone too far.

Pinsky is accepting no responsibility. He told "The View" that "in a weird way" he wishes he could take responsibility, but he hasn't been McCready's doctor in years. He says he spoke to McCready two weeks ago and helped persuade her to get help, but she left rehab within hours.

She was found dead on the porch of her Arkansas home days later, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" isn't currently on the air. Pinsky switched his focus to non-celebrities in Season 6, and changed the title to "Rehab."
