FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The No. 51 University of Arkansas women's tennis team is on the road this weekend for two matches in Mississippi. The Razorbacks are in Starkville, Miss. first to face Mississippi State at 3 p.m. on Friday, and then are at Ole Miss at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Arkansas started their spring break swing through Mississippi on Wednesday, winning two matches at Jackson State. Arkansas cruised to a pair of shutout victories, winning 4-0 and 5-0, improving their overall record to 8-10 (1-5 SEC).
The Razorbacks have been led by the strong play of senior Claudine Paulson. She is 14-2 on the season and has won her last six singles matches, all during conference play. She is ranked No. 93 in the nation, and Yang Pang, who is 6-8 playing at No. 1 singles, is ranked No. 68.
Overall, Arkansas is 46-38 in singles play on the spring season. With a roster that features seven freshmen, the Razorbacks have gotten 32 singles wins from newcomers this year.
Mississippi State is 6-8 on the year, but 0-6 in SEC play. The Razorbacks lead the all-time series 12-9, including winning the last six matches.
Ole Miss is 4-8 on the season, and 2-4 in conference play. The Rebels lead the all-time series 22-10, but Arkansas has won the last three matches.
"This is an important weekend for us on the road," Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty said. "We will look to our earlier road matches for things that can help us, as we expect two close matches in Mississippi."
