LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Authorities are investigating a fire that burned down the First Baptist Church at Highland Park in Little Rock early Sunday morning.
Fire crews responded to 18th and Cedar at Highland Park after getting calls about that alarm.
They arrived to find light smoke showing from the eaves.
"At the same time the battalion chief was outside and saw the structure began to vent smoke and flames and so we called those companies out and they started a defensive attack," said Captain Jason Weaver with the Little Rock Fire Department.
By dawn there was only smoldering rubble.
"We're looking into going back to Arkansas Baptist College, but several pastors have called and given us the opportunity to accommodate us in some way or form or fashion. But that's where we are," said Pastor Willis Walker.
On Sunday afternoon, THV caught up with Brigette Williams, the Communications Officer with the American Red Cross.
"Our purpose there is to take care of their nutritional needs if you will, and keep them hydrated, which obviously is critical because this has been a really strenuous fire and they are exhausted," Williams said.
No one was injured in the incident, but it took firefighters nearly 10 hours to put out the blaze.
