SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - A man accused of stealing a generator from a family whose son was on dialysis has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
However, he was not sentenced for that incident.
Vince Shoptaw, Prosecutor with Saline County, said Donald Higgins was sentenced May 21 for violating probation. Shoptaw said Higgins, 35, was on probation for a prior residential burglary when he was accused of the generator theft. The burglary he was on probation for happened about 10 years ago.
Higgins is accused of stealing a generator and a Honda Element during the Christmas-week snow storm of 2012. During a probation revocation hearing this week, Higgins was sentenced to 13 years for violating his probation.
Shoptaw said Higgins is scheduled for a August 20 trial on the generator charges.
