LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A defense attorney for an Arkansas man charged with killing his 6-year-old neighbor says a judge has granted his request for a mental evaluation.
Lawyer Pat Aydelott said Wednesday that a judge this week approved his request to have 28-year-old Zachary Holly undergo a mental evaluation.
Holly has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, rape, kidnapping and residential burglary in the November death of 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman in the northwest Arkansas city of Bentonville. The young girl's death ended a short life marred by abuse. Her father and stepmother are in prison after they chained her to a dresser in 2011.
Prosecutor Van Stone has said he's seeking the death penalty for Holly.
