LITTLE ROCK - A Washington County man arrested twice already for crimes against children has been arrested by agents from the Attorney General's Office on an additional charge, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced today.
Agents from the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit arrested Johnny D. Carte, 61, of Evansville on one count of rape. The arrest warrant for Carte was issued in Izard County, where the offense was alleged to have occurred two decades ago.
Bond on the rape count was set at $100,000.
Carte had previously been arrested in Washington County on 30 counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child and, later, on two counts of sexual indecency with a child.
The investigation that led to today's arrest followed Carte's initial arrest on June 28. At that time, agents with the Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Carte's home in Evansville and seized electronic evidence that is currently being analyzed.
The Attorney General's Office will turn over its completed investigative file stemming from today's arrest to 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Don McSpadden. The Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest.
Rape is a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison.
Charges are merely accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
