BRYANT, Ark. (KTHV) - The Bryant School District is using an application to enhance communication and keep the community informed. The familiar sound of a school bell means classes are back in session, extracurricular activities are starting up, and with all of that combined, it can become overwhelming.
"Even as a teacher it's hard to keep up with all the dates going on in a district this size. All the football games, all the board meetings," Brooke Plack explained.
Now there is a way for everyone to stay organized and connected to the Bryant School District. It is a new mobile application that is available for smart phones and tablets.
"Parents and students are able to access student information, classes, grades, assignments and attendance information, through a password protected portal," Director of Communications Devin Sherrill said.
"My daughter keeps a close eye on it," Eva Cissell added. Cissell's granddaughter is a sophomore at Bryant High School, and her family is excited about the new ways to keep up with her and her school performance. "When my daughter was in school, I wish they had that."
The app even has the ability to report a student's attendance record.
"Parents are notified daily if their student does not attend a class period or a school day, and this is for our middle and high school level," Sherrill added.
Students may not be too fond of that part, but sixth grade teacher, Brooke Plack said it is to help, not harm.
"As students learn and grow, they're all going to make mistakes, and they're going to mess up, so to have that layer of accountability lets them know not that they're going to get in trouble, but that we care," Plack explained.
