PIKE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) are seeking information on the shooting of a bald eagle.

According to assistant chief of communications with AGFC Keith Stephens, the eagle was found Feb. 2 on private land west of Highland along Highway 26, and a $2,000 reward has been offered for information leading up to the conviction of whoever is responsible for killing it.

Stephens said bald eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, both of which are federal wildlife statutes.

Anyone with information concerning the shooting of the eagle is asked to call Sgt. Sigman at (501) 622-9352 or call the Stop Poaching Hotline at (800) 482-9262. Anyone who provides information will remain anonymous.
