New York, NY (Sports Network) - D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid was
named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week on Monday for Week 3 of the
2013 season.
In Saturday's match against Atlantic Cup rivals New York Red Bulls, the Red
Bulls dominated play and outshot United by a considerable 24-5 margin, but
Hamid made seven saves to preserve a point for his club in a heated 0-0 draw
at Red Bull Arena.
The U.S. international was test early and often in poor conditions on Saturday
and made his best save of the match late in stoppage time as he cleared a
cleared a Brandon Barklage shot off the line with a last-ditch effort to
keep the clean sheet intact.
The MLS Player of the Week award is selected each week by the North
American Soccer Reporters. The group consists of members of online, print,
television, and radio media.
