Auburn, AL (Sports Network) - Kyle Wiltjer scored a game-high 17 points to
push the Kentucky Wildcats to a 75-53 rout of the Auburn Tigers in
Southeastern Conference action at Auburn Arena.
Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin, and Ryan Harrow chipped in 12 points each for
Kentucky (12-5, 3-1 SEC) as it picked up its second victory in a row. Harrow
also dealt out eight assists while Nerlens Noels made a major contribution
with 10 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks.
Rob Chubb paced Auburn (8-9, 2-2) with 14 points and seven rebounds. Frankie
Sullivan went 5-of-16 from the field to net 12 points, Allen Payne scored 11,
and Asauhn Dixon-Tatum added 10 points off the bench for the Tigers, who
suffered their second straight defeat.
Auburn missed all 11 of its 3-point attempts in the first half, but it went
into halftime trailing by a reasonable, 30-25 margin after the Wildcats went
just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc before the break.
Kentucky was unstoppable after the intermission, connecting on 66.7 percent of
its field goal tries to outscore the hosts, 45-28, over the final 20 minutes.
The Wildcats used a 17-2 run to jump out to an insurmountable 27-point lead
late in the second period.
Although the Tigers committed only nine turnovers, they were outrebounded,
43-30, and outscored, 40-30, in the paint.
