Greenley, CO (Sports Network) - Tate Unruh poured in 21 points as the Northern
Colorado Bears handled the Eastern Washington Eagles, 72-56, in a Big Sky
Conference matchup at Butler-Hancock Pavilion.
Derrick Barden registered a monster double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds
for Northern Colorado (5-11, 3-5 Big Sky), which also received 14 points on 4-
of-5 shooting from the floor from Tim Huskisson. The win was the second in a
row for the Bears.
Venky Jois finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for the
Eagles (4-11, 2-6), who dropped their third consecutive decision. Collin
Chiverton went 5-of-16 from the floor for 13 points and Parker Kelly tallied
11 in the losing effort.
The Bears held a narrow 33-30 lead at the intermission despite shooting only
35.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. EWU trailed at the
break after it converted 44 percent of it shots from the floor in the first
half.
Northern Colorado drained 6-of-13 from 3-point range and outscored the
visitors, 7-0, in points off of turnovers after halftime to glide to the 16-
point victory.
The hosts used a 47-29 advantage in rebounding and outscored the Eagles, 15-6,
at the free throw line to string together wins for just the second time this
season.
