Irvine, CA (Sports Network) - Adam Folker tallied 16 points and nine rebounds
as the UC Irvine Anteaters won a defensive struggle against the Cal Poly
Mustangs, 52-45, in Big West Conference action at the Bren Events Center.
Daman Starring added 12 points for UCI (11-11, 5-4 Big West), which had lost
its previous two games.
For Cal Poly (9-10, 5-4), Chris Eversley was the lone player in double figures
with 15 points. The Mustangs have lost four of their last six games.
Neither team shot greater than 36 percent in the first half, but Cal Poly was
able to take a 25-21 lead into intermission by draining 4-of-8 from 3-point
range.
Trailing 45-44 with less than two minutes to play, UCI closed the game out on
an 8-0 run (on 8-of-8 from the free-throw line) to capture the victory.
The Anteaters outscored the Mustangs in the paint, 26-16.
