Conway is hosting Small Business Saturday to boost local businesses
CONWAY, Ark.( KTHV)- Black Friday sometimes tends to overshadow small and local businesses, so the city of Conway is doing what it can to prevent that.
The city brought back small business Saturday to help out the over fifty local restaurants and shops in their downtown area.
“I think it's an awareness thing. It's not so much about spending money this Saturday, it's about raising awareness about what small business does for every community. It keeps things local and money stays in the city,” owner of Leflers Fashions, Marty Lefler said.
“There are lots of retailers out there that are big department stores, big retailers, big chains and online shopping but we offer personal service,” Manager of Vesta’s, Stacia Adams said.
Business owners feel the city has added different elements to this weekend to help them out even more such as live music, a Ferris wheel, and lighting the tallest Christmas tree in Arkansas.
“When you shop with a small business that money is staying here, it's going to your neighbors; the people you work with and go to church with,” said Jamie Gates, a Conway Chamber of Commerce member.
If the festivities aren't enough, maybe the sales are.
“We have lots of sales and a Pandora promotion,” Lefler said.
“You come in and shop and you’ll get to pick a discount and apply that to one item,” Adams said.
Shops in downtown open around 10 a.m. and close around 6 p.m. The festivities start at 2 p.m. and the tree will be lit at 6 p.m.
