SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - THV11’s Discover Arkansas crew traded in their hiking boots for a history lesson this week. Adam Bledsoe and Mariel Ruiz uncovered a small museum in Saline County called The Gann Museum.

The building was built for Dr. Dewell Gann Sr. in 1893 by a group of patients that could not afford his services.

“It is the only known building in the world made out of bauxite,” Executive Director Lindsay Jordan said.

The museum also stores a large exhibit of Niloak Pottery which was made decades ago in Saline County. Gracious donors keep The Gann Museum open at no cost to the public.

The museum is open Thursday – Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
