Special needs child, Jabarious, waits in wonder while searching for forever family

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - 6-year-old Jabarious is curious, playful & innocent. He waits in wonder while searching for his forever family.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Adoption stories are difficult to tell, but it’s part of the harsh reality of state foster care.

One little boy has been in the custody of the state since birth, with numerous special needs. 6-year-old Jabarious is your typical child. He is curious, playful, and innocent.

During a trip to the Wonder Place, Jabarious was mesmerized by the ball machine built into the wall. He stood for minutes and minutes just looking in wonder.

Louis Bailey is an adoption special for DHS. "Jabarious is a child who needs a family that is very educated on special needs children, with training on how to care for them," said Bailey.

Jabarious rarely speaks, but he can hear. He wears a feeding tube and has trouble with his left hand, but you wouldn't know it when watching him turn the pages of a book. Jabarious loves to read.

"He still has the tendency to be productive, even with the limitations," Bailey said encouragingly.

Nothing held Jabarious back during his outing with THV11. He had fun on the slide, climbed the wall, beat on the giant drum with a big smile on his face."I would say come and get to know Jabarious. Come and interact with him," said Bailey. "We are definitely looking for a loving, caring family that is interested in providing the love and the support and nourishing that he definitely needs right now."

A 6-year-old boy with a sweet spirit, navigating life in foster care with needs unique to just him. He is deserving of a family to bring him home.

Bailey told Dawn Scott, "he's very loving, he's very kind, he's very in need of someone to just love him and provide that one on one care with him even though he has the special needs."

If you'd like to know more about Jabarious or any child we've featured, head to the DHS website. There are no costs associated with adopting a state foster child.
