LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- You know when it comes to accessorizing your patio you might want to consider a few things.

Number one, make it personal. Not everything has to matchy-matchy. If you like little chotskies and things like that add them in, just make sure you don’t do too much or go overboard.

First of all let’s look at containers. Lots of containers of different ferns. Everything from the Boston Fern to the one of my favorite tropical ferns called Kimberly Fern, because they can take shade to full sun.

Also, window boxes. Now the secret to growing things in window boxes, because they dry out so quickly in the summer time, is you can buy a product which is called Soil Moist Granules. They look like little crystals and you mix them in the potting soil and they absorb the moisture, mix in with the potting soil and your plants roots go in those and it cuts your water basically in half.

And whatever you put in your boxes just consider your light requirements. Here we have shade and sun so we did plants that can grow in both. We have the Blue Scaevola which is wonderful because blue is a great color in the heat of summer time. We have the Begonias and Asparagus Fern. We also have pots with Ferns like the Kimberly Fern out here, which is so tough it can grow in hot full sun.

Don’t forget to have the sound of water. A low maintenance recirculating fountain can make all the difference on a hot summer day. Mix in with some cool furniture that has blue and white in it. Boom! We are done. What a great relaxing environment.
