LITTLE ROCK, Ark (KTHV) - The new year is a great time to make goals and set plans. For many, those goals include exercising and eating healthier. Healthy Chew of Little Rock is here to help you keep those resolutions.
"The thing that sets us a part from our competitors is that we change unhealthy foods to tasty, [healthy] ones," said Pete Nyugen, co-founder and owner of Healthy Chew.
Nyugen says you can eat unhealthy foods as long as you consult with a dietitian, use ingredients that are "non-GMO" and "non-processed, straight from the source" and practice portion control.
"We've had gumbo, chicken and waffles, shrimp alfredo - I've been able to keep [the shrimp alfredo] under 400 calories," he said.
When it comes to seasoning, Nyugen says he likes to keep it simple.
"I usually stick with the McCormick seasonings - those are all safe seasonings - then I use a basic [sauce]," he said. "Don't go overboard with it. Usually two tablespoons is the max, a capful."
Healthy Chew's top sellers this past week were the:
- Chipotle burrito bowl
- Lean, ground turkey sloppy jo with carrots and potatoes
- Hawaiian turkey burgers
- Caribbean chicken with sweet potatoes and broccoli.
The weekly meal-prep subscription service has only been at its location in West Little Rock for six months, but it has been in business for three years.
