Protect your investment, protect your plants | Today's Home

Chris H. Olsen gives us a few tips on how to protect our plants from thieves.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Okay here is a strange garden topic for you.

Believe it or not, Chris Olsen gets numerous emails on this topic. It’s how to keep your plants secure and safe from being stolen. A lot of us make a big investment when we’re planting certain plants in our yard especially our front yards. Or containers or things like that. A few things to consider.

For example, a beautiful Crimson Queen Japanese Maple. Chris’s was stolen out of his yard two days after he planted it because it is close to the street. Way down deep he actually has chained the trunk of the tree underground and its chained to a big Holly Bush. Now he covered it with mulch so you don’t see it.

So, it looks nice and good but if anyone tries to dig this tree up before it roots out they won’t go very far and hopefully, they will take off and run off fairly quickly. He did that but what you have to remember though is within a year or two as the tree grows and it is well rooted out that you take the chain off because it will choke the tree over time. So, you don’t want to forget about that.

If you have nice containers on your front porch etc. make sure make sure you fill them up halfway with gravel so they’re too heavy to move and that should help secure those containers from being stolen. Hey, it’s that way the world is nowadays you’ve got to consider how do you protect your plant investment.
