LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) — An organization in southwest Little Rock feeds thousands of kids every year and organizers need your help to keep the program going strong.

Feed First America is investing in kids living in Southwest Little Rock by feeding them and teaching them.

This service organization feeds at their building on Baseline, it sending out meals to 22 different apartment complexes, using six U-Haul trucks.

“I wish we had a video of the kids running up to the trucks and if we don't show up in time they'll be calling and asking where we're at,” founder Al Lockett said.

They feed close to 900 kids a day for dinner during the school year and in the summer they deliver breakfast, lunch and dinner, feeding close to 3,500 kids.

It doesn't stop there, they also tutor kids and teach them.

“Most days a van will pick up children and those that walk will walk in and we have recreation, pool tables, games, and a library area,” Lockett said.

They do this all year long to keep kids off the streets because all of these complexes they serve have one thing in common.

“The apartment complexes that we hear on the news, these are the places that we feed,” he said.

For example, one of their sites is Whispering Hills on Chicot Road, and back in May, there was a double homicide there; two women were found dead in a truck.

Spanish Jons is another site that they visit. In late October, one person was killed and one person was injured in shooting that took place at the apartments.

One things for sure, the parents of these kids, like Tequila Robinson, appreciate the help.

“For my daughter and a lot of the kids here, sometimes I can't make it from paycheck to paycheck and they come and make sure that my baby has breakfast and lunch,” she said.
