Abducted woman found safe, homicide victim identified

Susan Smith has been located and the homicide victim has been identified.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — North Little Rock police say a woman abducted during a deadly home invasion on Saturday evening has been located and is safe. Investigators are still searching for the suspects.

Police say two men forced their way into a home at Keller Mobile Home Park, located at 3507 E. Washington, around 6:10 p.m. Saturday.

54-year-old James Harold Griffin was shot during the home invasion. He died from his injuries at a local hospital.

Police say the suspects then took Susan Lee Smith, 35, from the home against her will.

On Sunday, neighbors remembered Griffin as a funny and kind man.

"He was a happy-go-lucky guy. I still can't believe he's gone," said Lorrie Smith, a neighbor of the victim.

Smith was relieved to know police found the woman who was taken from the home across from her.

"I've just been on my knees praying to God," she said.

Detectives with the North Little Rock Police Department believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the community.

"We would encourage anyone right now who may have seen something, heard something that may help lead us to those responsible for this horrible event to come forward," NLRPD spokesperson Sgt. Amy Cooper said.

Copper said anyone who comes in contact with the suspects should not approach them, but instead call 911 immediately.

In the meantime, Smith has a message for those responsible for taking her neighbor's life.

"These guys, I hope they cannot sleep at night; the shooter, especially," Smith said. "Because they took a good man's life away from him and he's hurt the family bad, and friends and neighbors, because we really loved him."

This investigation is still ongoing and further information will be released as soon as it is available, police said.
