Benton woman escapes kidnapping attempt, Sherwood man arrested

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as John Brandon Self, of Sherwood.

BENTON, Ark. — On Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, Saline County sheriff's deputies and detectives were called to a residence off of Salem Road for a report of a woman who had been attacked by an unknown male. 

The victim reported that the suspect had followed her in his truck and then struck her truck with his. When she stopped, the suspect, armed with a handgun, grabbed her from her truck and tried to force her into his truck. 

The victim was able to fight off the suspect and escape.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as John Brandon Self, of Sherwood. 

Detectives located the suspect’s vehicle and have impounded it for evidence purposes. After seeking an arrest warrant for Self, detectives arrested him without incident on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Self has been charged with Kidnapping, Battery 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons. 

Self will appear before a judge Friday morning, Jan. 25 to be assigned a bond.
