Homicide suspect arrested after hunters find man's body in Jefferson County

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of a man who had suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, deputies are in the early stages of a homicide investigation.

Deputies say they responded just before 6 p.m. to the area of Wilbur West Road near Bayou Bartholomew in regards to a body found by people hunting in the area.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of a man who had suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, Dec. 20, the victim was identified as 20-year-old Laquavis Thomas.

The body was be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Tri-County Drug Task Force Investigators later developed information that Daelon Reshuan Baker was involved in the homicide.

 They were able to locate Baker and arrested him on unrelated charges on Monday, Dec. 20. After further investigation, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, District Judge Kimberly Bridgforth found probable cause to hold Baker in jail without bond for Capital Murder and possession of a defaced firearm.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
