UPDATE: The individuals have been identified as Mary Elizabeth Manues and Timothy S. Lane, both are from Almyra, Ark..

ARKANSAS CO., Ark. (KTHV) - Deputies with the Arkansas County Sheriff's Department received a call pertaining to two unmoving individuals inside of a four door sedan on the side of Burkswitch Road near Almyra on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017.

The unidentified individual who reported the vehicle stated they had been in the area the previous day at around 4:30 p.m. when they first noticed the vehicle driving through the flooded street. The individual continued his journey and paid no further attention to the car until they noticed it on the side of the road on Saturday.

A deputy who was dispatched to investigate the situation attempted to arouse the male and female passenger in the vehicle to no avail. He proceeded to shatter the rear window to gain entry. That's when he learned the occupants were deceased.

While water in the area had subsided, there was evidence that water had entered the passenger area of the vehicle.

The Arkansas State Police were then contacted to conduct the investigation. Sheriff Todd Wright believes that carbon monoxide poisoning may be a factor in the deaths.

Names are not being released until next of kin notified. Both bodies will be sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
