A San Antonio woman is $1 million richer. While she hit the jackpot, it wasn't from playing the lotto, but winning a unique contest. She created the crispy taco-flavored potato chip for the Lay’s Do Us A Flavor contest and is now celebrating a big win.

KENS 5 first introduced you to Ellen Sarem back in August when she was named a finalist for the contest. She was crowned the winner of the contest on Tuesday evening.

“I cried like a baby last night. Cried up on the stage and everything,” Sarem recalled.

Sarem described the moment when she was handed the check for $1 million.

“My heart was beating superfast. I was super anxious. Like I said, I don't remember even walking up there, but it was incredible,” said Sarem, who added that she's entered the contest every year since 2012, but it was her fresh idea of crispy taco that beat out the other finalists: “everything bagel with cream cheese” and “fried green tomato.”

Sarem said that she feels like she not only won for herself, but also the Alamo City because she was able to create a flavor unique to San Antonio.

“I totally won for San Antonio! Everyone in this city has been so supportive and amazing, so I feel like I totally won for everybody too,” Sarem said.

The stay-at-home mom with a 1-year-old son will be getting married in the spring. The family says that the prize money will allow them to honeymoon in Hawaii and, some day, buy a bigger home for their growing family.

“It’s just been awesome and I just want to thank everybody for the votes and the shares. It’s just been incredible,” Sarem said.

Sarem said that Lay’s will bring back the crispy taco flavor from time to time.
