in Little Rock, El Zocalo Immigrant Resource Center held an open house today to inform immigrants — regardless of their status— about their rights.
A representative from Arkansas United answered questions about the immigration system and legal resources immigrants can make use of.
Organizers said although Little Rock is not a target for the planned raids, it's still a good time to provide information that can help calm people's fears.
"A lot of times, people are afraid if they get stopped by the police or if they interact with an immigration official, just how to communicate with them is a really big thing," said Kelsey Lam, an organizer of the event.
Lam also said that the goal of the open house is to make sure those attending understand the facts surrounding immigration enforcement.
"Communicating good clear information [about] what's going on."
The center will host a legal clinic next Sunday led by a lawyer.
Those who attend will also be able to schedule consultations to create an emergency plan in the case of an immigration crisis.
