HAZEN, Ark. (KTHV) -- A concerned parent in Hazen asked THV11 about reports of a staph outbreak at the local school on Monday.
The Hazen school principal confirmed that 11 students have been diagnosed with staph. The most recent diagnosis was on August 23. Officials don't know where the students got the bacteria.
THV11 contacted Hazen's only pharmacy, The Prescription Shop. They say there is no antibiotic shortage, despite the rumors in town. In fact, they say they have plenty of medication and say that very few people have come in with antibiotic prescriptions.
Officials with the Arkansas Department of Health say that while they have been following the situation, and have sent copies of the safety guidelines to the school, they are not currently involved.
