LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Many of the men involved in the Three Miles of Men have a personal connection to the cause. Matt Propst, Board President of Komen Arkansas, lost his wife to cancer eleven months ago. Now, he is fighting for a cure to help others.

Matt describes his marriage as a special relationship saying they were the happiest couple he knew.

He said that Erin was his best friend and perfect match. Their marriage stayed strong through Erin’s two battles with cancer. She passed away after the second round.

For many years, Erin was a longtime volunteer with the Komen Race for a Cure even though she did not have breast cancer. She felt a connection with other women who faced difficult circumstances similar to hers.

Erin's involvement inspired Matt to also become part of the organization. Now, Matt continues Erin’s legacy of service with his involvement with Arkansas’ Komen organization.

While Erin won't be at this year's race, Matt says her memory and impact will be. Matt plans to stand among friends in the Three Miles of Men, cheering on the women running the race this year.

He will also be thinking of Erin and how she taught him that the race is best run for the people you love.
