Arkansas filmmaker 'Broncho Billy' Anderson to be honored with movie showing

Arkansas's own Gilbert "Broncho Billy" Anderson's 138th birthday will be celebrated in style at Historic Arkansas Museum Wednesday night.

Arkansas's own Gilbert "Broncho Billy" Anderson's 138th birthday will be celebrated in style at Historic Arkansas Museum Wednesday night.

The Arkansas Cinema Society is partnering up with four other organizations to celebrate the film innovator and pioneer.

Anderson helped usher in the silent era of film by producing, directing and acting in 140 films. The filmmaker's most famous work is The Great Train Robbery, a milestone film that created techniques that are used today in modern films.

After retiring, Anderson was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1957 for his work in the film industry.

Anderson has also been credited with signing Charlie Chaplin and filming the first pie-in-the-face gag.

The screening will take place at the Historic Arkansas Museum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Piano music from John Willis with score the film live.
