Baby delivery to be phased out at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock

While labor and delivery and neonatal intensive care units will continue at other CHI hospitals in Arkansas, those services are expected to be phased out of the CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock by March 1.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock announced Thursday it will drop labor and delivery services and its neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital's CEO Chad Aduddell tells our partners at Arkansas Business that those two services are likely to end by March 1.

Aduddell cited fewer deliveries over the past few years, and the rising cost of healthcare. The 65 employees who work in labor and delivery will be offered jobs in other hospital departments.

CHI will continue labor and delivery services at its other hospitals in Arkansas.

“We have prayed about and sought alternatives to discontinuing these programs,” Aduddell said. “In the end, we recognize that these services are well provided by other organizations in central Arkansas. We are also working through various partnerships to ensure covered labor and delivery services for our staff who are or may become pregnant.”
