BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) -- Benton Police Chief Kirk Lane has released the name of the officer involved in the shooting incident from Monday, October 17.

The officer involved has been identified as Kyle Ellison, who is assigned as a K-9 officer for the Benton police department.

Ellison is a six year employee of the department. He has been on administrative leave since the shooting incident and remains on leave pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigation.

In 2013, Ellison was a recipient of an "outstanding law enforcement officer" award from Arkansas' second district, for a successful vehicle pursuit of a known drug dealer.

The criminal and internal investigations are still on-going.
