Cabot theatre seeks volunteers for onstage and behind the scenes

A new nonprofit theatre called Cabot Area Theatre is temporarily putting on shows at a church, but plans to branch out with the help of volunteers.

CABOT, Ark. (KTHV) — As the city of Cabot continues to grow, some residents want to see more opportunities for theatre and arts. That's why a group of thespians has come together to create a new theatre nonprofit called Cabot Area Theatre.

Now, they need community support and volunteers to make the vision a reality.

Right now the organization is meeting in a small church in a shopping center on the side of a highway, Refuge Community Church. The church has allowed them to have volunteer and board meetings there. They also have opened the opportunity for the theater to partner with them for open mic nights or fundraiser shows.

The theatre is planning to use the church for some of their initial performances as they start getting things off the ground. The team has a two-man show they are considering for performance later in the spring. It's a small show that could work in a smaller space like the church.

Executive Director Brian Wolters hopes the theatre will create more opportunities for all people.

“We want to do five shows a year but we also want to do kids events and kids shows to get kids involved with summer programs,” he said. “We want something always going on whether its local talent shows or full productions.”

Assistant Director, Amie White, said the Cabot community is growing and there are a lot of opportunities for theatre to grow as well.

“In every show, there is a limited number of cast members involved and I think there are enough people in the community who are looking for an artistic outlet that there’s enough people here to cast multiple shows at the same time,” she said.

White said that in order to make this all possible, they need volunteers to help as soon as possible. David Cannady retired three years ago from the Air Force and he decided to volunteer with the theatre as a way to give back to the community. He's calling for the help everyone in the area to make this dream a reality.

“Get out in your community and do something that gives back,” he said. “The more faces we get and the more people we get involved, the bigger productions we can have and the more technical aspects we can put into the production to make it a more enjoyable experience.”

The theatre is looking for people of all backgrounds and experience levels to be stage managers, costume designers, programmers, directors, historians and so much more. Click here to find more information on how to get involved as a volunteer or supporter.
