DARDANELLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Hundreds of people came together to watch the procession in Dardanelle, as the body of Lieutenant Kevin Mainhart was brought home.

At around 10:30 Friday morning, Little Rock Police Officers paid their respects. They sent off the escort for Lieutenant Mainhart, home to Yell County.

"It's probably the most important thing a total stranger can do for another stranger, just showing respect for what he did both in the air force and as a police officer," said David Cone, State Captain of the Arkansas Patriot Guard Riders.

Patriot Guard members attend the funerals of veterans all over the United States. Dave has attended many processions and many funerals to honor his fellow veterans.

"They do so much day in and day out so, basically I’m returning something that they gave to me,” Cone said.

The procession ended at the Cornwell Funeral Home, where they are taking care of arrangements for the family.

Kevin Mainhart's body is escorted home to Yell Co. by local police&#lt;/p&#gt;Posted by &#lt;a href=\"https://www.facebook.com/thv11/\"&#gt;THV11&#lt;/a&#gt; on Friday, May 12, 2017&#lt;/blockquote&#gt;&#lt;/div&#gt;","type":"video","version":"1.0","url":"https://www.facebook.com/thv11/videos/10155259310713554/","width":500}

“I woke up at 4 a.m. with this on my mind, and I’ve been ready for it all day. It’s important to me. It’s important to us as hard as it is on all of us,” said Cornwell Funeral Home employee Jason Keeling. “Everybody in the community respected him and cared about him. Just a good fella.”

After watching the escort drive by and seeing members of this community lined up along the street, one man said the city of Dardanelle and Yell County as a whole is unlike any other.

“This community is more spiritual in the sense that we reach out to each other we don't care who you are,” said Ken Goff. “Though it was sobering and sad, it was also beautiful because the community came out to support this officer.”

The visitation for Lieutenant Mainhart will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m at the Cornwell Funeral Home in Dardanelle. The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God in Russellville.
