Developers want 'restaurant-heavy' buildings for Little Rock's Midtown area

Major development plans are in the works for Little Rock's Midtown area.

Major development plans are in the works for Little Rock's Midtown area. Developers out of Dallas purchased the old Sears and surrounding buildings for $44 million in 2016.

Provident Realty Advisors are calling the project "The District in Midtown". According to our partners at Arkansas Business, they're planning for 11 restaurant-heavy buildings, several that will be new to the Little Rock market, plus two hotels offering nearly 200 rooms.

They aren't releasing who will set up shop just yet.

The buildings will replace the old Sears store, Sears Auto and Tire Center, and the Doctors Plaza, where Arkansas Specialty Orthopeadics was located.

"Eventually we had the whole building," said Dr. Jimmy Tucker, President of Arkansas Specialty Orthopeadics.

The former Doctor’s Plaza tenant learned they’d have to move once their lease was up this month.

"We started on this building and we had basically a year to get it done," Tucker said.

They quickly began constructing a new building just down the road on Fair Park where they're merging with OrthoArkansas. The $16 million office, with the combination of both medical groups, results in the largest orthopedics group in the state.

The City of Little Rock hasn't approved the project yet, but should discuss it at their May 17 meeting
