LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Little Rock Police Department are investigating a shooting that allegedly occurred after a gambling dispute.

On Saturday, police responded to reports of a shooting at the 3300 block of South Polk Street which is right off Asher Avenue. When they arrived they noticed blood on the ground near the house and the front glass door was shattered. Both the front and back door of the house were left open.

Police said they found empty shell casings inside the residence, but did not locate anyone inside during their search. During the crime scene investigation, officers found a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun.

Little Rock police were then made aware that a shooting victim was at UAMS and was in critical condition.

When they arrived, LRPD were told by witnesses that the shooting happened after a gambling dispute. The suspect allegedly lost and became upset. He then walked outside and grabbed a gun and shot the victim.

During the gunfire, another person at the residence shot at the suspect in self defense. He was taken to UAMS as well, but at this time it's unclear if he was injured during the shootout.

According to witnesses, the suspect escaped on foot in an unknown direction. It's not known if the suspect was shot during the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing and police have not officially named the suspect in the case.
