LRPD cracking down on speeding and caravans on city streets

In the past two weeks, LRPD has given out 500 traffic tickets and arrested 200 people.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The Little Rock Police Department has a message for people causing trouble during this pandemic: The law breaking stops now.

Since the beginning of the year, LRPD has seen more illegal speeding, caravans, and roadway infractions.

Officers are seeing the most problems on Asher Avenue, Colonel Glenn Road, and Sloane Drive.

There are also people hanging out in empty parking lots after dark, doing donuts and disturbing the peace in city parks.

"I patrolled one night and there were over 300 cars running down Asher. It was bumper to bumper traffic," said Brittney Jackson, a Little Rock police officer. "We couldn't even respond to get ahead of them to set up traffic details because we were bumper to bumper," said Jackson.

In the last two weeks, Little Rock police have given out 500 traffic tickets, made 200 arrests, and impounded 100 cars during incidents like this, but it's not just adults creating havoc.

LRPD tells us more kids are getting into trouble, and they aren't just causing problems on the roads.

"We have seen an increase of juveniles in possession of handguns and a few arrests of being in possession of marijuana," said Jackson.

To resolve this, LRPD is cracking down on the juvenile curfew and ramping up patrol where they are getting more complaints.

The curfew for kids in Little Rock is 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and midnight to 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

If a child is caught disobeying curfew, they could face a citation.
