HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State Police are investigating the in-custody death of a man who went into medical distress after authorities said he began fighting with sheriff's deputies.
The Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that deputies were aiding an ambulance on a medical call Saturday when a man, 34-year-old Heath Allen Snowden, started acting "disorderly." When deputies approached, the sheriff's office said the man began to fight them. Authorities said after a "very intense physical altercation," the man was taken into custody.
Deputies soon discovered the man was in medical distress. They performed CPR and ran to the ambulance for help. The man died later at a hospital.
The deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
