LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Instead of using a lottery to give out dispensary licenses, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission has chosen to pick applications solely by the merit of the application.
This recent decision removes a draft rule that would've required applicants to meet a minimum set of requirements so they could enter a lottery. After being chosen in the lottery, they would then be allowed to present their plans to the commission.
They have also struck an option that reduced costs and regulation for dispensaries who elected not to grow marijuana.
The commission made these changes after they heard from Arkansans at a public hearing on the proposed rules on Friday, March 31.
The group will meet again on Tuesday, April 11 to continue their discussion on any potential changes.
