LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Medical marijuana will soon be in the state of Arkansas and now is the time for growers and sellers to get ready. That means cities are also having to prepare to take in those businesses.

As a formality, the Little Rock planning commission proposed an ordinance to include medical marijuana language in its zoning ordinance code.

The planning commission approved the proposal 10 to one. The proposal basically treats the businesses just like a pharmacy so anywhere a pharmacy can be zone, a dispensary and cultivation facility will too with the restrictions on the distance to schools, churches, and daycares existing before the date of the marijuana business application.

Following the rules put in place by the Medical Marijuana Commission, the proposal restricts dispensaries from being located at least 1,500 feet away from a church, school, or daycare and cultivation facilities 3,000 feet away.

The proposal will be voted on next week. If you want to read the full proposal, just click here.
