North Little Rock family celebrates recovery from problems together

We all have our own battles, and like most families, the Tatum's have a few of their own.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- We all have our own battles, and like most families, the Tatum's have a few of their own.

“I struggle with anger, I battle a pornography addiction, and my wife struggles with anxiety,” said Richard Tatum, the father of the family.

Parents Richard and Alana Tatum said they could see their bad habits rubbing off on their children.

“I have a son that's not pictured here that has some behavioral issues at school and he was always getting in trouble,” he said.

They also had some issues with their 16-year-old daughter Xiana.

“I went through a lot of anxiety, depression, and feeling alone. I didn't have a good self-coping mechanism and I was self-harming at the time,” Xiana said.

The Tatum's decided their whole family needed to get to a better place physically and emotionally, that's where a program called Celebrate Recovery at First Assembly of God in North Little Rock stepped in.

The program sees close to 400 people every Tuesday night and they have 14 different programs geared towards everyone’s needs and problems.

Recovery Pastor Layne Mason said they see people from all walks of life. There's three different classes within the program for children, teens and adults.

“We have men and women we bring in from recovery houses from around town from reentry programs. We have a group for depression and anxiety, women that have been abused and we even have a group for veterans that's called 'Welcome Home,'” he said.

He said any family can join and have a place to fit in.

Since entering the program, the Tatum's can now say something they've never been able to say before.

“We're a healthy family with a healthy marriage and we're a support system for each other in our church and in our community,” they said.
