Watershed needs your help to make Thanksgiving possible for others

Watershed feeds 4,800 people for Thanksgiving and is accepting donations. The center needs more food to help feed all of those people.

In 28 days, millions of people will sit down with their families and share a hot, Thanksgiving meal. But tens of thousands, including people right here in Arkansas, will not. That's where organizations like the Watershed Family Resource Center come in.

“They put out so much food so much food so much kindness, they really do help people and it’s amazing it really is. Sometimes this may be the only dinner a person may get, but they can come up here and get them some food," said Jo Kendrick who has received help from Watershed for 20 years.

For three decades, Watershed in Little Rock has fed tens of thousands during the holidays, and just like every year, they need our help.

"It’s a wonderful thing to see the community come together and help people who are less fortunate," said Fred Hokes, Director of Employment Services at Watershed.

Hokes has spent the last 32 Thanksgiving days serving at Watershed.

“I’ve had people help me in my past and I never forget that and we all may need help sometimes in different ways," said Hokes.

He credits the communities donations over the years and that’s why again, they're asking for monetary donations for turkeys, nonperishable food items, paper items and utensils.

"The end result is the food actually going to the person, but there is an enormous amount of stuff that has to happen in the background to get that plate where it’s got to go,” said Hokes.

In order for Watershed to put food on the plates of the 5,000 they'll serve this year, THV11 is holding a Helping Home food drive Friday, Oct. 27 at the Kroger on Colonel Glen Drive in Little Rock from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. We're accepting monetary donations for the 500 turkeys that will be served, non-perishable side items, and serving ware. They’re also accepting gently used winter coats.

Here's the list of items that will be accepted:
• Monetary donations for turkeys
• Instant potatoes
• Canned corn
• Canned green beans
• Aluminum foil
• Cranberry sauce
• Pepper, salt, and sage
• Cream of mushroom soup
• Cream of chicken soup
• Chicken broth
• Macaroni and cheese
• Napkins
• Plastic utensils
• Carryout trays and dessert trays
