Pacific Rim Uprising gives you exactly what you want with more monster fights

Pacific Rim Uprising will give you exactly what you expect which is giant robots fighting monsters and other giant robots.

Pacific Rim Uprising starts John Boyega, you know him as Finn from Star Wars, as the rebellious Jake Pentecost. Jake is the son of Stacker Pentecost who was played by Idris Elba in Pacific Rim and gave his life in the victory against the monstrous kaijus from another dimension sent to destroy humanity.

Jake was once a promising Jaeger pilot (Jaeger’s are the giant robots created to combat the kaiju) but he dropped out of the program and is caught up in a criminal underworld. When he is finally forced to make a choice between prison and reenlisting by his estranged sister, the choice is obvious. He’s given another chance to live up to his father’s legacy when a new threat emerges and an old threat reemerges. Jake is joined by the hard-nosed rival pilot Nate Lambert, played by Scott Eastwood, and 15-year old Jaeger hacker Amara, played by Cailee Spaeny. Burn Gorman and Charlie Day reprise their roles from the first film.

This is a movie with giant robots fighting monsters and other giant robots. I don’t know what you want from a review about a film like this other than, it’s a movie with giant robots fighting monsters and other giant robots. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you want. Uprising is brighter in both color and tone than its predecessor, which was directed by Guillermo del Toro who recently won an Academy Award for directing The Shape of Water, which also won best picture.
